What Is The Story Behind Your Blog Name?

What is the story of your blog name?

Your blog name is your established identity on the blogosphere. And I want to believe that it was thoughtfully chosen.

As Cheri Lucas Rowlands observed,

“Your blog name is one of the first things that readers notice about your site. Your name tells visitors what your blog is about, but also reveals a bit about you and your personality.”

The purpose of this post is to ask you to share the story behind the name of your blog so that we can understand you more and relate with you better. But before I delve into asking you that question, I will like to first and foremost explain how I arrived at my own blog name.

I know it is not a so-fantastic story but it is my pleasure to share it with you all the same. As you can see, the name of this blog is Victors’ Corner.

Back in my undergraduate days many years ago, I used to ‘run’ a little motivational speaking session in my class. I would often stand in front of my classmates (usually before or in between lectures) to speak to my fellow students. I would encourage them to work hard, to not be discouraged, to not to give up hope and to always trust God for the best.

I used to call that little sharing platform The Victors’ Corner. The Victor in the appellation is not the Victor that is my real first name. But it referred to victor as an English word meaning a winner. My simple operating purpose was to inspire my fellow students then to become victors, succeeding (especially in academics) in flying colours.

Around the year 2001 when I opened my first email address, Victorscorner became the natural username to employ. But instead of the two separate words, Victor’s Corner, it became merged into one as Victorscorner. The apostrophe was done away with because, as you know, it is not allowed as part of an email username.

Then came 2015 when I had the privilege of starting this blog. WordPress requires an email address to set up an account. And as such, my already already victorscorner@yahoo.com became handy.

Victorscorner also became authomatically used as part of the blog’s domain name. And I later adopted it as the name of the blog as well.

However I will like to explain the little twist to it – the double entendre in it. At the initial stage, the blog name was in the singular form, Victor’s Corner, referring to one winner at a time on one hand, and my (real name, Victor’s) corner of WordPress on the other.

But I later began to see everyone on this platform as winner a in one way or another. So the name was tweaked to a plural form, Victors’ Corner. That is the form in which the blog name exists till date.

As I explained on the About Page, we are all winners in this corner.

I am a winner

You are a winner

Together we are winners.

That’s the story behind my blog name. You may read My About Page for more.

Now let me ask you: What is the story behind your own blog name?

On the evening of January 11, 2016, our oldest son, Hans, was killed in a car crash at the end of our driveway. The next day would have been his twenty-first birthday.

The purpose of my blog is to honor the Lord Jesus Christ in the context of our grief after losing Hans. We declare that the true and living God is real, that He is good, and that he is worthy to be praised. I chose You Can Trust Him (youcantrusthim) as the name of my blog because I want it known to anyone who reads it that God is good all of the time, not just when life is easy. He can be trusted with our loved ones and with our trials because He is good, He is wise, and he loves me.

I’m sorry about the loss of your dear son. I know the experience must have been a very difficult one for your family. But from your comment, I can see that your faith in God remains unwavering, despite the loss. May God Strengthen you continually.

Your words are very encouraging. No matter what we face, God can still be trusted. Thank you for your contribution to this discourse.

Thanks for sharing Victor how ” Victors’ Corner ” originated and what it means to you and yes we are all Winners, we are greatly Loved by God.

It was not my idea Victor to start my Blog in 2011, with my being Dyslectic and unable to write fluently or spell I did not feel very confident about Blogging but a friend kept encouraging me until I agreed. My friend than set the Blog up for me but I didn’t realize it was in America until a few weeks later but amazingly I had used a Story on my opening page that had an Eagle as it’s focus and I also used an Eagle as my header not realizing this is America’s Symbol.

My friend asked what I wanted to call my Blog and we tried a few names but they were rejected so I prayed for a Name and I thought of Freedomborn and it was accepted but in the Spellcheck it is Freedom Born 2 words, my Blog focus including Comments has often been about Freedom in Christ Jesus and what it really means to be Born Again and Perfected in Love, so it all worked well together and when I Post or Comment the words just flow and the Scripture comes into my mind but I still make mistakes with Punctuation etc but thankfully Firefox helps with my Spelling, yes I’m a cracked Vessel but God is the Superglue!

On my Blog I’m two people Anne and Grannie Annie which is one of my Pen names and which Children often call me, I use Grannie Annie to focus on the deeper points of my Message when I Post and respond as myself if I feel I want to add more.

I also do my Devotions Blogging, which blesses me greatly, God often leads me to peoples Blogs and besides being blessed by their sharing and encouraging them, I correct error too if needed using Scripture to confirm God’s Truth. Blogging to me is a two way Conversation with the opportunity to glorify The Lord and also to be in Unity with His Body, The Church and like you Victor my Spiritual Brothers and Sisters come from all Countries and Denominations and I’m very Blessed to be able to share with you and them my Heart Focus too.

    Christian Love Always – Anne.

Thank you Anne for reading and commenting as always. I do appreciate this contribution detailing how you came about your blog name. Quite appropriate!

I must say you are ahead of me… I have a post ready to publish a few hours from now, which I is a sequel to the one in review. I am actually linking to some blogs and calling on their authors to give a word about the meaning of their blog names. And of course your blog is included.

But now that I have your explanation here already, I could just copy and use a part of it in that post since I would not want to remove tagging you. At the same time I would not mind if you would comment again as well. Thanks for your support Anne.

Mine is actually very simply. I pray I always tell the truth, so that is part one. My little community is called Palmyra, part two. Later I realized there is also a Palmyra in the Middle East!

My blog URL is from my name Peter Adewumi (https://adewumipeterblog.wordpress.com) but my blog name is LifeBlog, because I want to blog about the Bible, and every information that can add value to the reader, hence LifeBlog, blogging about life, ditching out every piece of information that is beneficial. Who knows whose life may need such? Well done, I love the post. Best wishes!
