Quote: Religious Legalism Vs The Holy Spirit

Unless you can let go of what you think you know, and fully submit to the leadership of the Holy Spirit – abandoning religious legalism wherever necessary – you would definitely be unable to realize your full Christ[ian] potential in this life regardless of your best efforts. –Rev. Wildfire

Great post Victor. What does the post mean when he said, “… abandoning religious legalism wherever necessary.”?

      Thanks for reading.
I believe the author meant that our attitudes in following God should reflect one of openness and willingness to move beyond established religious and traditional bias and being led by the Holy Spirit…
      I hope that helped.

    Great quote!
Jesus came to show us that a relationship is available, as it was from the Beginning. Rules are not relationship. As parents, we love our children without condition…whether they obey the rules or not, they are always welcome in our presence and we always give them love.
How much more does the Father love us?
Follow Him. He will bring the changes He sees fit, in His timing by way of His loving conviction, as a response to His love for us.

  3. It reminds me Victor of the Woman caught in Adultery, although others were condemning her Jesus didn’t but He did tell her to go and Sin no more. Sadly even some Pastors look the other way when people in their Congregation continue to Sin but letting Satan get a foothold in their lives is not Love.

Do Parents Love and appreciate their Children doing the wrong thing, no if they Love them they discipline and warn them and we will indeed reap the evil we sow and this is God’s Discipline for us which is not pleasant either but Wow when we come to our senses and Repent what a Welcome Home, much the same as the Prodigal Son when he Repented.

Obedience is also not Legalism, it shows we Love God as confirmed below. What is also important is the danger disobedience and lack of Repentance brings when having Holy Communion (1Corinthians11:26-34) yes we Love others but not their Sin and nor does God because He knows were it will lead them and that they are still dead in their Sin, He wants those He knows as His own to be Born Again and yes He is Patient not wanting any of us to Perish, it is one reason why Jesus has not returned yet and of course because all Prophesy has not yet been forfilled either before He returns.

1 John 2:4-6 He that saith, I know Him and keepeth not His Commandments is a liar and the Truth is not in him. But whoso keepeth His Word in him verily is the Love of God Perfected hereby know we that we are in Him. He that saith he abideth in Him ought himself also so to Walk even as He Walked.

Romans 8:1-4 There is therefore now no Condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus who Walk not after the flesh but after the Spirit.

1John 4:17-19 Herein is our Love made Perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of Judgment: because as He is so are we in this World. There is no fear in Love but Perfect Love casteth out fear because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made Perfect in Love. We Love Him because He first Loved us.

1 John 3: 1-11 ( 9 ) No one who is Born of God will continue to Sin because God’s seed remains in him he cannot go on Sinning because he has been Born of God.

1 John 5:18-20 We know that no one who is Born of God Sins but He who was Born of God keeps him and the evil one does not touch him.

1 John 3: 1-11 ( 6-7 ) Whosoever abideth in Him Sinneth not: whosoever Sinneth hath not seen Him neither known Him. Little Children let no Man deceive you: he that doeth Righteousness is Righteous, even as He is Righteous.

Ephesians 4:23-24 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind and that ye put on the new Man which after God is created in Righteousness and True Holiness.

2 Corinthians 7:1 Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved Let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, Perfecting Holiness in the fear of God.

Titus 2:13-15 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto Himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all Authority. Let no man despise thee.

Colossians 3:4-6 When Christ, who is your life appears then you also will appear with Him in glory. Put to death therefore whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. Because of these the wrath of God is coming.

Daniel 12:10 Many shall be Purified and made White and tried but the wicked shall do wickedly and none of the wicked shall understand but the Wise shall understand.

2Corinthians 13:11 Finally, brethren, farewell. Be Perfect, be of good comfort be of one mind live in Peace and The God of Love and Peace shall be with you.

Christian Love Victor in our Unity in Christ Jesus,
    Anne. ( Grannie Annie)

I like the example of the woman caught in adultery. The legalistic religious people sought to destroy her. But Jesus showed her great grace. All of us have been shown grace in the Lord. We should extend same to other people.
Even the story of the prodigal son which you also referred is a much loved story. Another demonstration of love, forgiveness and grace. These things are written for our example.
Like you said, obedience might not be legalism, but if the obedience takes the form of self-righteousness and condemnation for others, then we have to look again. In any case, our obedience has to be in love, else it becomes legalism.
As always, thank you for reading and commenting.

      • Yes very True Victor but Repentance is needed as the Scriptures below confirm, we just don’t ignore Sin in ourselves or in others.

As a new Believer although not coming to real Heart Repentance until many years later, I was rebuked by a Christian couple for my involvement in the Stars which is part of the Occult…NO! I was not impressed, who did they think they were telling me I was doing something wrong, how narrow minded, talk about being unloving! but after a Christian Woman’s Camp and being shown the Scriptures confirming that God hates these things because they harden our heart towards Him and eventually if we continue, we spiritually die believing Satan’s lies.

As a heart Child of God, as you can see Victor with me and no doubt others, He rescues us before we do but until then we live in defeat and fear which this couple tried to save me from. I have thanked them now for the seed they planted and respect that they Loved me enough in The Lord to rebuke me in Love, even though I abused them and ignored them. Later other Christian friends warned me I was walking in the wrong direction when once again I became addicted to Gambling which had a hold on me before I started going to Church and yes it was not appreciated either but they were the first ones I Thanked for Loving me enough to warn me when I Repented and was Miraculously Healed and also delivered from the Gambling Addiction.

We see in Scripture The Truth will set us free as you shared Victor we are God’s vessels to speak His Truth in Love, not by our own agenda or by fleshy critical judgment and when we do speak His Truth, we leave the rest to Him. His Truth in Scripture is likened to a sword but even sharper and Jesus is The Truth, He is The Living Word of God and His Truth cuts away deception if accepted but yes we don’t judge critically their weaknesses and shortcomings or their Eternal Destiny, we don’t know their heart , they may come to repentance on their deathbed from good seeds that have been planted.

Luke 17:3-5 Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him and if he repent, forgive him. And if he trespass against thee seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turn again to thee, saying, I repent; thou shalt forgive him. And the Apostles said unto the Lord, Increase our faith.

2 Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for Doctrine, for Reproof, for Correction, for Instruction in Righteousness that the Man of God may be Perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all Good Works.(KJV)

        2 Timothy 4:1- 4 I charge thee therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at His appearing and His Kingdom; Preach the Word be instant in season, out of season; Reprove, Rebuke, Exhort with all long suffering and Doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound Doctrine but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

        Blessings – Anne

Whom the Lord loves, He chastises, the Bible says. I guess that applies to us too.
You were rebuked by your friends and it turned out right. That’s great.
