Temptations Of Life

Temptation
I saw you with my clear eyes.
I thought I could steal an innocent look,
But in the end my eyes got hooked.

Temptation
I touched you a little with my fingers,
Thinking I could just fiddle and run.
Now addiction to you has just begun.

Temptation
I could have chosen to flee from you
But I walked through your alluring doors.
See me now so unhappy on your floors!

Temptation.
You crept into my heart and stayed.
Why didn’t I shove you aside once,
And stay untainted as I used to be?

Temptation
I gave you but a little foothold.
Why have you become such a big stronghold,
That seems to hold me down, captive?

Oh God of my salvation
Deliver me from the temptations of life,
That have kept me down and bound.
So I can boldly say, victory is mine at last!

Had King David not taken that second look and obsessed over Bathsheba, he would have avoided much trouble for her and himself.
Just a quick note…temptation is not sin anymore than an advertisement places you in debt. Being tempted is common to all of us. But, we have the opportunity to dismiss the temptation and God is always willing to help us when it is difficult.

Deliver me from the temptations of this life, all of the sins that easily beset. Keep me rooted and grounded in you.
